Less suited to

Anyone who wants free video hosting or an audience on a video platform; mave is hosting and a player only.

  • Application and delivery with Scaleway in France, storage with Hetzner in Germany
  • Player without tracking cookies, automatic subtitles included

What is mave?

mave is from mave.io B.V. in Rotterdam. You upload videos, mave encodes them and you put them on your site with its own player or web component; you get analytics without tracking cookies or advertising profiles. According to the page on European hosting, the application and video delivery run at Scaleway in Paris and files are stored at Hetzner in Germany. The core of the platform is open source, and according to its own blog post mave is ISO 27001 certified.

Good: fixed prices in euros, with player, subtitles and analytics in every paid plan. According to mave, a temporary spike in traffic does not take your videos offline.

Less good: there is no permanent free plan, only a 30-day trial. We did not find a data processing agreement for customers on the site, and the terms are in English.

The Netherlands check

Useful if you run a business in the Netherlands. "Unknown" means we could not verify it.

  • Support in Dutch: Unknown

You would rather ask a question in Dutch, to someone who knows how things work in the Netherlands.

  • App in Dutch: Unknown

An app in Dutch is quicker to use and avoids mistakes, also for colleagues who read less English.

  • Data in the EU: Yes

At a webinar, attendees leave their name and email address, and sometimes questions or chat messages. If those are stored with an American vendor, it matters under which rules the data goes to the US.

  • Data processing agreement: Unknown

Webinar registrations and viewing data per visitor are personal data that the vendor processes for you. Then you need a data processing agreement.

  • Company in the Netherlands: Yes

A Dutch company falls under Dutch law. For some businesses that matters, for example in a dispute.
