What is Vimeo?
Vimeo is a video platform from Vimeo.com, Inc. in New York. You host videos without ads before, after or during them, and embed them with a customisable player, behind a password or an unlisted link if you want. It also includes a screen recorder, a simple editor and automatic captions. From Advanced you run webinars and livestreams with questions, polls and chat, and stream to other platforms at the same time.
According to Vimeo, the platform is located in the US, with some components in Europe. Storage in Germany or Belgium is only available to Enterprise customers who buy the data residency option. For ordinary users Vimeo sees itself as a data controller and does not sign a data processing agreement with them; that is only available for Enterprise and Vimeo OTT. The site and apps come in seven languages, not including Dutch.
Good: a clean ad-free player, generous storage already in Starter, and you can pay and cancel monthly.
Less good: prices in dollars, no Dutch interface, and EU storage and a data processing agreement only with Enterprise. Webinars cost $75 per user per month straight away.
