What is Anara?
Anara is an AI research workspace from Anara Labs, Inc. in San Francisco (US). You search and read literature, have sources summarised and write a piece with citations, such as a literature review or report. Every claim has a link to the passage it comes from.
The privacy policy does not say where data is stored, only that it may go to countries where Anara operates or has vendors, such as the US, with standard contractual clauses as a safeguard. Anara has a representative in the EU (Ireland). You sign the data processing agreement online via anara.com/dpa, and there is a list of sub-processors.
Good: the free plan is genuinely usable, and the source references make it easy to check whether a summary is correct.
Less good: prices are in dollars, Anara does not mention storage in the EU, and the tool focuses mainly on academic work.

The Netherlands check
Useful if you run a business in the Netherlands. "Unknown" means we could not verify it.
Support in Dutch: Unknown
You would rather ask a question in Dutch, to someone who knows how things work in the Netherlands.
App in Dutch: Unknown
An app in Dutch is quicker to use and avoids mistakes, also for colleagues who read less English.
Data in the EU: Unknown
What you put into an AI tool, such as customer files, quotes or photos of people, often goes to servers and AI models in the US. If the data is in the EU, you have less to arrange for transfers.
More about data in the EU →Data processing agreement: Yes
If you let an AI tool work with data of customers or employees, the vendor processes it for you and under the GDPR you need a data processing agreement.
More about the data processing agreement →Company in the Netherlands: No
A Dutch company falls under Dutch law. For some businesses that matters, for example in a dispute.

Headquarters: San Francisco, United States
Outside the EU and EFTA.
Owner: unknown
We found no source showing who owns the company, or that it is independent.
Anara is an American company or has an American parent. That means the US CLOUD Act applies: US authorities can require the company to hand over data, even if it is stored in the EU.
Data in the EU: unknown
A tool only gets the European badge if both its headquarters and its owner are verifiably in the EU or EFTA. All European software.
