What is overheid.io?
overheid.io is not run by the government but is a service from Downsized, a Dutch company (KvK 58488340) that builds APIs. The idea came about in 2013 during the Hacken voor Democratie hackathon in the Dutch House of Representatives. Through REST and JSON you fetch datasets such as OpenKvK (company information), the BAG (postcodes and addresses) and Dutch vehicle data. overheid.io adds things of its own, such as geolocations for addresses and autocomplete on company names, postcodes and car makes. The site does not name a city.
According to the site, the APIs run on a private cloud of its own; overheid.io does not say where it is located. We did not find a data processing agreement. Payment goes through Mollie, and according to the terms you cancel immediately by deleting your account.
Good: a low entry price excluding VAT and a free test dataset that lets you try everything before you pay. The documentation and the site are in Dutch.
Less good: no information on hosting, sub-processors or a data processing agreement. Small and Medium do not allow data export, and Small has only 2,500 API calls; the page does not say over what period.
