What is Postcode.nl Adres API?
The Address API is from Postcode.nl B.V. in Haarlem. For a Dutch address you enter the postcode and house number and get the street and town back; with the Autocomplete API a customer types part of the address in a single field and picks from suggestions, also for addresses in countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. For the Netherlands the data comes from the government’s Basic Registration of Addresses and Buildings (BAG), for other countries from official sources such as postal companies and governments.
Postcode.nl is ISO 27001 certified and hosts with Leaseweb and DirectVPS in the Netherlands; that is listed with the other sub-processors in its Trust & Security centre. The data processing agreement is Article 5 of the general terms and conditions. For WooCommerce and Magento there are free plug-ins from Postcode.nl itself; for Shopify, Shopware, Lightspeed eCom, PrestaShop and OpenCart there are paid plug-ins from other parties.
Good: a low entry price per year, prices excluding VAT and hosting in the Netherlands. You pay per validation, not per user.
Less good: foreign addresses cost considerably more per validation than Dutch postcodes. Plug-ins for most web shop platforms come from other companies and often have their own monthly fee.
