What is Cap?
Cap is an open-source screen recorder from Cap Software, Inc. in the US. You record your screen, a window or your camera and share a link straight away, or edit the recording first in Studio mode. There are apps for Mac, Windows and Linux. You can import Loom videos, and the source code is on GitHub.
According to the data processing agreement (cap.so/dpa), Cap processes data in the US and wherever its sub-processors are, with standard contractual clauses for transfers from the EU. Cap names no fixed EU region. With Cap Pro you connect your own S3 storage in a region of your choice, and you can also self-host Cap entirely.
Good: a one-time licence for local recording, and with your own storage or self-hosting you keep control of your videos.
Less good: prices are in dollars, and you may not use the free plan for business. Data in the EU is something you arrange yourself.

The Netherlands check
Useful if you run a business in the Netherlands. "Unknown" means we could not verify it.
Support in Dutch: Unknown
You would rather ask a question in Dutch, to someone who knows how things work in the Netherlands.
App in Dutch: Unknown
An app in Dutch is quicker to use and avoids mistakes, also for colleagues who read less English.
Data in the EU: Unknown
A screen recording shows everything that was on your screen: emails, customer names, dashboards. If you share through the vendor's cloud, where those videos are stored matters.
More about data in the EU →Data processing agreement: Yes
If you record customer data and put the video in the tool's cloud, the vendor processes it for you and you need a data processing agreement. If everything stays local on your computer, that matters less.
More about the data processing agreement →Company in the Netherlands: No
A Dutch company falls under Dutch law. For some businesses that matters, for example in a dispute.
