Less suited to
Anyone who wants data in the EU: Knock stores in the US and expects EU hosting only at the end of 2026.
Key facts
- Free up to 10,000 messages per month
- Data in the US, EU hosting expected end of 2026
- Starter costs $250 per month
What is Knock?
Knock is notification infrastructure from Knock Labs, Inc. in New York (US). Through one API you send notifications to email, SMS, push, Slack and an in-app feed in your own product, with templates, per-user preferences and workflows. For delivery you use your own providers, such as SendGrid, Postmark or Twilio.
According to the privacy statement, data is stored in the US. Knock is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses standard contractual clauses; there is a data processing agreement (Data Processing Addendum). On the security page, Knock writes that it expects EU data residency at the end of 2026. SOC 2 Type 2 applies to all plans.
Good: the free plan with 10,000 messages per month is enough for a small app. No set-up costs.
Less good: the step from free to Starter is big ($250 per month) and prices are in dollars. Data in the EU is not yet possible.
