Short verdict
Good fit for
Companies that hire staff in the Netherlands without their own entity (EOR), or that want payroll for their own entity in several countries.
Less suited to
Small Dutch employers with staff only here; Dutch payroll software such as Nmbrs or Loket is then a more obvious choice.
Key facts
- Global Payroll from €27, EOR from €550 per employee per month
- Data hosted in Ireland
- Own legal entity in the Netherlands
What is Remote?
Remote is an international HR and payroll platform with, among others, Remote Europe Holding B.V. in Amsterdam and Remote Technology Services, Inc. in the US. In the Netherlands you can use it in two ways. With Employer of Record (EOR), Remote employs your employee through its own Dutch entity and Remote is on paper the employer; you then need no limited company (bv) of your own. If you do have your own entity, Global Payroll handles the payroll processing, returns and payments for your own staff. With Nmbrs or Loket you do the latter yourself in Dutch software; Remote is made for teams in several countries. Remote hosts the data in Ireland, at AWS, and offers customers a data processing agreement (DPA).
Good: prices are in euros on the site, there are no set-up fees, and you can choose between EOR and payroll for your own entity.
Less good: Remote does not say whether support and the app are in Dutch, and integrations with Dutch accounting packages such as Exact Online are not in the list. The site does not say whether the prices exclude VAT.
