Short verdict
Good fit for
Freelancers (zzp) and teams who take their own notes in meetings and want a tidy summary without a bot looking on.
Less suited to
Anyone who wants calls to stay in the EU: Granola stores everything at AWS in the US.
Key facts
- No bot in the call, you start the recording yourself
- Also transcribes Dutch, the app itself is English
- Storage in the US, data processing agreement on request
What is Granola?
Granola is an AI note-taker from Granola Labs Ltd (England) and Granola, Inc. (US). The app runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Granola does not send a bot to your video call and does not record by itself: you switch it on yourself, it transcribes live and combines that with what you type into a summary. According to the help page, transcription also works in Dutch; the summary can be in English or in the language spoken most. The app itself (menus and settings) is English only.
Granola stores your notes at AWS in the US and does not keep audio after transcribing. For transfers out of the EU, Granola uses standard contractual clauses. A data processing agreement is available on request, on all plans. Because no bot appears on screen, participants do not notice by themselves that notes are being taken: tell them yourself and ask for consent where needed.
Good: no bot in your meetings, a free version to try, and Dutch conversations are recognised.
Less good: all data is in the US, prices are in dollars and the app is English only.

More about data in the EU →Data processing agreement: Yes
If you let an AI process conversations or email from customers, the vendor is your processor and you need a data processing agreement.
More about the data processing agreement →Company in the Netherlands: No
A Dutch company falls under Dutch law. For some businesses that matters, for example in a dispute.
