What is Superwhisper?
Superwhisper is a speech-to-text app from SuperUltra, Inc. (US) for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. You dictate in any app and Superwhisper turns your words into clean text, with custom instructions per situation. On a Mac you can also record meetings. The site mentions more than 100 languages and dialects, but not which; try for yourself whether Dutch works well.
You choose how you transcribe. With a local model, according to the privacy policy, your audio and text never leave your device; that works best on a Mac with an Apple chip. If you choose a cloud model, Superwhisper processes your audio in memory without storing it, or it goes to the provider you choose (such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google). The service providers on the trust page are in the US; Superwhisper does not name a storage region. The data processing agreement is part of the terms. Superwhisper has a SOC 2 Type II report.
Good: offline transcription is possible, there is a free plan and you can also buy Pro once.
Less good: prices in dollars, and with cloud models it is not clear where your data is processed.
