How we review

What should you look for in a business bank account?

You choose a business bank account on the fixed monthly price, the cost per transaction and the integration with your accounting. Also check which bank your money is actually held at.

  1. Monthly price and transaction costs

Some accounts have a low monthly price but charge per payment or cash withdrawal, others include everything. Which is cheaper depends on how many payments you make.

    Ask the vendor

What does the account cost per month, and what do I pay per payment, cash withdrawal and extra card?

  2. Free account

For a small sole proprietorship with few payments, a free account may be enough. Check which services you then pay for separately.

    Ask the vendor

What is not included in the free account, and when will I have to start paying?

  3. Deposit guarantee

According to DNB, a business account is also covered by the deposit guarantee, up to €100,000 per bank. For a sole proprietorship your business and private accounts at the same bank count together; a bv (private limited company) has its own limit.

    Ask the vendor

Under which banking licence and which deposit guarantee scheme does my money with you fall?

  4. Integration with your accounting

With a bank feed, your transactions arrive in your accounting package automatically. Without one, you upload statements every month.

    Ask the vendor

Which accounting packages have a direct bank feed?

  5. Payment requests with iDEAL

With a payment request or payment link you get paid faster, especially by private customers who want to pay with iDEAL.

    Ask the vendor

Can I send payment requests with iDEAL, and what does that cost per payment?

  6. Support when something goes wrong

If your card is blocked or there is a strange debit, you want to talk to someone quickly, in your own language.

    Ask the vendor

Can I call you in Dutch, also outside office hours, if my account or card is blocked?

  7. A provider based in the Netherlands

Not every online provider is based in the Netherlands. If you want an account with a company established here, you can see that in the Netherlands check.

    Ask the vendor

In which country is your company based, and will I get a Dutch IBAN?
