iDEAL and Wero
According to the Dutch Payments Association (Betaalvereniging), 70% of e-commerce transactions in the Netherlands go through iDEAL. iDEAL will move over to Wero in the coming period.
What is Wero?
Wero is a European payment solution, built on iDEAL. According to iDEAL, 16 large European banks are behind it, including the Dutch banks behind iDEAL. Wero is already active in Belgium, Germany and France.
How does the transition work?
Since the end of January 2026 the brand name iDEAL has been changing step by step to iDEAL | Wero. You see a new logo, but paying works the same. By the end of 2027 at the latest, every business that accepts iDEAL will have switched to Wero. After that the iDEAL brand will gradually disappear.
iDEAL is still in discussion with the regulator about the technical switch and the final milestones. So those dates are not fixed yet.
What do you need to do?
In the first phase, nothing. According to iDEAL, your checkout keeps working and you keep the same payment provider. They handle the technical changes and the new logo, and let you know what changes. Do make sure your switch to Wero is complete by the end of 2027 at the latest.

Is iDEAL disappearing?
The brand is, gradually. By the end of 2027 at the latest, every business that accepts iDEAL will have switched to Wero. After that the iDEAL brand will be phased out.
Do I need to do anything for iDEAL | Wero?
Not in the first phase. Your checkout keeps working and your payment provider handles the technical updates and the new logo. Make sure your switch to Wero is complete by the end of 2027 at the latest; your provider will inform you.
