How we review

What should you look for in a payment provider?

With a payment provider you pay per payment, and the differences are in the small amounts. Work it out with your own mix of iDEAL, credit card and other payment methods.

  1. Price per iDEAL payment

For most Dutch online shops iDEAL is the largest payment method, so the price per iDEAL payment determines a large part of your costs. A few cents' difference adds up over many orders.

    Ask the vendor

What does an iDEAL | Wero payment cost, and do I also pay for failed or refunded payments?

  2. Fixed monthly costs

Some providers charge no fixed amount, others do, in exchange for a lower price per payment. With few payments, a provider without fixed costs is often cheaper.

    Ask the vendor

Are there fixed monthly costs or set-up costs, and from how many payments per month does a different rate become cheaper?

  3. The switch from iDEAL to Wero

iDEAL is becoming Wero. According to iDEAL, you keep the same payment provider, who handles the technical changes and the new logo. Your switch has to be complete by the end of 2027 at the latest.

    Ask the vendor

How and when will you move my iDEAL payments to Wero, and do I have to change anything myself?

  4. Integration with your online shop

A payment provider has to fit your online shop platform, your invoicing program or your POS system. A ready-made plug-in saves building work.

    Ask the vendor

Is there an official plug-in for my online shop platform or invoicing program, and who maintains it?

  5. When you get your money

There is time between your customer's payment and the money in your account. For your cash flow it matters whether that is a day or a week.

    Ask the vendor

After how many days is the money in my account, and do you hold back part of it as a buffer?

  6. Support with a blocked payment

If your account is temporarily blocked or a chargeback is in progress, you want to talk quickly to someone who understands your situation.

    Ask the vendor

Can I call you in Dutch if a payment or my account gets stuck?

  7. Data processing agreement

A payment provider sees the names, email addresses and account details of your customers. If they process that data for you, a data processing agreement is mandatory.

    Ask the vendor

Are you a processor or a controller for my customer data, and do you offer a data processing agreement?
